Our Mission:

The mission of CAN! is to educate the general public that arthritis is a serious, widespread and disabling disease which can be effectively treated.

We raise money to complete this public education, which will enable us to accomplish the following goals:

Access to Appropriate Treatments: With the cost of prescription drugs increasing, insurers are motivated to lower costs by limiting access to necessary medications and treatments for arthritis patients.  CAN! educates arthritis patients about their disease so that each patient can participate fully in his or her healthcare decisions.

Research Funding: CAN! strives to increase arthritis funding by raising money for arthritis research and contributing that money to promising research projects. With an increase in arthritis research funding, a cure for arthritis is possible.

Awareness: To accomplish our goals, we must raise awareness among the general public that 1) arthritis is a serious, widespread and disabling condition; and 2) with the appropriate medical care, arthritis is treatable and disability can be reduced.

Arthritis is a widespread and serious condition:

  • Arthritis affects nearly 70 million Americans, or one in three adults.
  • Nearly two-thirds of people with arthritis are under age 65.
  • Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States.
  • Arthritis costs the nation nearly $125 billion a year in medical costs and lost productivity.
  • Nearly 300,00 children have arthritis.
  • There are more than 100 different types of arthritis and related joint disorders including:
    • Osteoarthritis
    • Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
    • Rheumatoid Arthritis
    • Lupus
    • Bursitis
    • Fibromyalgia
    • Ankylosing Spondylitis
    • Psoriatic Arthritis
    • Reactive Arthritis
    • and many more…
