HINTS AND TIPS

Living Well with Arthritis

Cleaning:

Split your time up.  Cleaning, laundry etc, can take a lot of time and energy. Do small tasks at a time.  Spread it out over a day or two (three or four?). Give yourself a break and plan ahead.  A cart on wheels that fits all of your cleaning supplies in it, take it with you as you clean.  It saves steps.

Dusting – A long stick with a duster on the end eliminates bending over or having to climb on a step stool (or a chair) to dust and get those cobwebs.                        Carol/North Carolina

Cooking: In the kitchen, get a chair on wheels, counter height. It eliminates standing for long periods while of time while you chop and dice, or assemble your meals.  Easily scoot from one part of the kitchen to another.

Coffee grinder- I have a second one that I use for grinding pepper. Those hand graters are to difficult on my wrists, It also works for other herbs that I need to chop quickly as well.  (don’t mix your coffee and herbs in the same grinder, if you do, simply grind some small pieces of bread until they whirl, clean, and there you have it!  A clean grinder). Battery operated can openers.  These actually work!  A lot easier on the hands.                                                          Elizabeth/Stockton

Washing your car – go ahead. No more bending and sqweezing a sponge!  Use a regular sponge mop.  Much easier on the back, and you can get a fair upper body work out! Jeff/Sacramento

Door Knobs – The lever type door knobs are much easier to use. Saves on wrists and fingers.
